The BMW Story

In 1910, Gustav Otto founded a company called Otto Flugmaschinenfabrik in Bavaria. Six years after its inception, the company was renamed Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG. In 1922, the name changed to its current name Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) 1922. Initially, BMW dates back to 1913 with another company, but in 1922, the company's engine-production facilities were transferred to Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. The company's first production was in 1917, with the launch of a straight-six aircraft engine. In the aftermath of the First World War, the company managed to stay afloat by producing farm equipment, motorcycles, railway brakes, and household equipment. In 1923, BMW manufactured its first motorcycle.

In 1928, BMW ventured into automobile manufacturing. In the 30s, BMW focused on manufacturing large luxury cars and sports cars. During the Second World War, BMW stopped manufacturing automobiles and focused primarily on producing aircraft engines. The company was nearly destroyed during the war, and in 1948, the company resumed the manufacture of motorcycles. Four years later, the company eventually resumed the production of cars. However, business was bad, so they didn't earn much from the sales. It got so bad that BMW was almost acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1959. However, a significant investment made by Herbert Quandt and Harald Quand kept the company afloat. The company launched BMW 700, which gained massive commercial success and sustained the company.

Culture & Vibe

BMW has what can be termed a progressive culture. The company's culture is founded on five core values, namely transparency, appreciation, trust, openness, and responsibility. The company genuinely cares about its employees, not just what they can contribute to the growth of the company. BMW embraces the racial, religious, cultural, and gender-based diversity of its employees to create an inclusive environment for all. Fresh graduates and interns are not alienated and looked down upon but carried along in the work process. Employees also frequently collaborate on projects together.

Career Prospects
